It is also in this spirit that Sprint introduced the Mobile Health Accelerator
, a startup initiative based out of the Sprint Accelerator entrepreneurial building in Kansas City. The Mobile Health Accelerator, powered by Techstars, is a mentor-driven program for startups that’s designed to cultivate innovative ideas from the community to bring together the future of mobile technology and health care. From remote patient monitoring to e-prescriptions to making sense of ever-growing volumes of data, technology is poised to reduce costs, improve productivity and increase quality in health care.
The Mobile Health Accelerator is a great example of the entrepreneurial drive that is in our DNA here at Sprint. Our internal culture is based on innovation, creativity and a commitment to engaging and collaborating with external stakeholders to accelerate technology. In fact, our diverse team of innovative employees have been granted 3,012 patents over the past seven years, making us a Top 100 U.S. Patent Owner.
To better harness all of the innovative ideas from employees across the company, Sprint developed an enterprise-wide approach for collaborative idea management. Our objective was to engage employees from anywhere within the company in developing new solutions to identified business challenges. The “Idea Network” is open to all employees, challenging them to help the company come up with new ways to tackle a specific business challenge.
Additionally, Sprint holds Startup events each year to encourage employees to think outside the box and challenge themselves to approach their work in a different way. The events are held at the Sprint Accelerator building in Kansas City’s Crossroads District and are designed to get people from all corners of our headquarter campus in the same room to come up with new solutions to various business challenges. By engaging with new people, moving into a new space, and thinking about problems in a different way, employees are able to generate new ideas quickly. And several ideas that have been pitched during this event are close to becoming products that Sprint will bring to market.
